Traffic & Backlinks from Article Directories
By skyfire
Article directories are excellent source of traffic and backlinks. Many article directories offer Google Ad-sense revenue sharing option as well. If you keep posting regular articles on these directories you can get some link juice as well as revenue. You may not get the revenue sharing option for all of these directories out there but traffic and back-link coming from them is valuable. So let’s get started with article directory method for generating traffic for your site.
Before you start with article submission let me warn you, this process is time consuming and it takes time for the results to appear. Once you get your articles in place you'll enjoy the benefits of traffic and back-link.
Step 1: Write article
Open up Google docs or word and start writing article relevant to your hub or blog post. Content for article directories needs to be in 300-500 words and unique. Quickly write short summary of points related to your hub or blog post. And now start expanding those points and complete the article in 500 words. Place the hub-link to your article if you’re allowed by keeping in mind the keywords. Don’t forget the title; it needs to be appealing as well in order to get attention from visitors of article directories. Now that you created one article you can submit it to only one article directory as most of the directories don’t accept duplicate content. If you expect traffic from multiple directories then you’ve to write more than one article which is related to your hub/blog.
Step 2: Submission
You can either choose automatic submission software or you can submit manually if you’ve limited content and directories to submit to. Make sure you don’t submit same content across multiple directories as high PR directories will not accept it. But some directories might accept duplicate content and you can submit it to those directories using automatic submission software.
Step 3: Wait and repeat
After submission you need to give sometime to fetch the traffic. My suggestion is to wait for 1 week and then again write and submit new articles in directories. It is time consuming but if you write unique articles then you’ll get decent flow of traffic to your hub or blog. While you wait you can create short articles for your other blog posts or hubs. You can repeat this process whenever you write new hub or blog to get some traffic.
List of Article Directories
There are more than 200+ directories where you can submit your content to generate some traffic. I suggest picking PR6-PR5 directories at first then go for PR7 or higher directories. Also don’t forget about low PR directories as they can be a good source of traffic as well.
PR 6 Directories
Ezinearticles.com – If you’ve submitted your article to EZA then you’ll see it can generate a lot of traffic for you. Make sure you post unique content on EZA and enjoy the benefits of traffic and backlink.
Goarticles.com – For tech niches it can help generate a lot of traffic from the article posting. So if you’re into tech niche then goarticle is definitely a one directory you must submit.
isnare.com- Another High PR directory with simple design yet high traffic as well. This directory has lot of articles on do-it-yourself and health; if your site or hub is on this topic then bakclink will give you a good traffic in return.
PR 5 Directories
articledashoboard.com – It has very simple design for their article directory but they’ve high page rank of about 5 which we can’t ignore. Also If you want to start your own directory then you can download their script which is completely free.
searchwarp.com – Articles on this site are either do-it-yourself or advice oriented. So if your content is relevant to these categories then you can submit your articles to this site.
Buzzle.com – Buzzle is one good resource if you write about inspirations, spiritual or advice type content. This type of content gets lot of traffic boost from buzzle. Of course you can submit into other categories as well.
Articlealley.com – This site allows content feed to blogs and websites, so make sure your article content can be scraped by some auto-blogs. Site is good for the back-link but i suggest not putting much effort writing for more than 500 words per article on this site.
PR4 and Low PR directories
Many of my friends ask me why we should submit to low PR directories so my answer to them is traffic from any directory is better irrespective of PR. Here is the list of directories with PR4 or Lower PR:
- articlesnatch.com
- ideamarketers.com
- amazines.com
- articlerich.com
- articleslash.net
- articlebliss.com
- articlesfactory.com
- article-buzz.com
There are many other directories for which you can search on Google for “Top 10 Article Directories by Traffic, Page-rank”.This query will redirect you to sites where you can get list of article directories with their traffic rank and page rank. Remember PR is varying for every article directory and many directories listed in this hub will get up or down in PR based on algorithm change on search engines. So always check PR for yourself before making any article submission plan with respect to PR. I hope this hub answers your question related to article directories.

Great hub! Have been desperately looking for something like this..., so thanks for sharing. I just find it hard work writing a separate 500 article just to submit with your hub link, though I know a lot of people just copy paste the first paragraph of their hub. I know you said, it should be original, but then for every new directory, do we come up with a new intro again? i HOPE i make some sense....just starting to understand all this, sorry! Rated this up btw!
Some directories allow spun article (means you can change your original post to 30%-60% ). 500 words is not necessary in every directory & some people will let you copy paste intro/summary etc. And Some directories do allow 250-300 words articles, so you need to check each directory guidelines for that. My suggestion is Rewrite single article so that your new article will look original such that it gets accepted. I'll come up with article rewriting hub in few weeks.
If you've more questions, don't hesitate to post. I would love to reply them. And thanks for up-vote. :)
:) thanks, that really helped...will look out for more!
This is an interesting article and I may try your method. I am using some other sites so many of these are new to me. Thanks for a good hub.
Thanks pamela. :)

Cool, thanks for this article. I found a few links that I hadn't seen before yet. Thanks!
Nice hub. Thanks for posting the lists of the top directories, that is what I was looking for.
Very well written, saved me time having to Google it myself which I normally would have done.
Thanks for the great information here.
If you combine article marketing with other types of Web 2.0 such as hubpages, squidoo, wordpress, blogger etc. you can really build a super effective and ultimately free source of high quality links.
Good overview of article submitting for backlinks, Skyfire. It does take time to write articles, but remember that there is a long term benefit. Some of my articles that was submitted almost 5 years ago, still bring traffic.
I've read a lot of reviews of article directories but I never had a review tell me which article directory is best for which niche!
PageRank and Traffic isn't everything. User Interface, Revenue Sharing, Keyword Authority, etc. matter as well.
